Frequently Asked Questions about White Labels

What's the difference between matte, gloss and TrueBlock® white labels?

  • Matt white has a flat, non-reflective finish - best for office use, addressing, filing and anything handwritten.
  • Gloss white has a shiny finish that makes colours look vivid and bold - best for product branding and marketing materials.
  • TrueBlock® white has an opaque backing that blocks whatever's underneath, so you can cover existing labels or text and reuse packaging - popular for shipping.

What is Quick Peel™?
Quick Peel™ is a backing-sheet design that lets you lift each label off faster and more cleanly, without picking at the edges. It's featured on Avery white addressing labels to speed up high-volume application.

What is TrueBlock®?
TrueBlock® labels have an opaque backing that stops anything printed underneath from showing through. This lets you cover an existing address or label on a box and reuse the packaging, with a clean, professional result. It's commonly used on shipping labels.

Will the print colour look the same on matte and gloss?
The ink is the same, but the finish changes how colour reads. Gloss makes colours look more vivid and saturated; matte looks flatter and softer, and reduces glare. For bright, punchy branding, choose gloss; for a subtle look or handwriting, choose matte.

Which white finish is best for product packaging?
For retail packaging, gloss white gives the most vivid, premium look. If you want a softer, more understated finish, premium matt white works well. For packaging that needs to survive moisture or handling, choose heavy-duty waterproof white. For a frosted, see-through premium look, consider clear labels, which are a separate material.

Which white finish is best for cold storage?
Heavy-duty waterproof white polyester is the best choice for fridge, freezer and damp conditions, where it resists moisture and condensation. Standard matt paper labels are less suited to cold storage, as condensation can affect adhesion. Check the product's material specification before buying for cold storage.
