How did this nurse and mother of three come to own and operate this successful business in sunny North Queensland?
Business Background
A nurse for 20 years, Kathleen began making earrings and sewing while on maternity leave. It was during this time that she realised she wanted to work from home around her family’s schedule instead of returning to nursing shift work.
As Kathleen was making earrings for her first business from her Townsville home, she noticed a lack of jewellery-making suppliers in the North Queensland area.
And so, in 2022, NQ Jewellery and Craft Supplies was born!

As a former earring maker herself, Kathleen’s aim for her business is to provide affordable, quality products for all makers, whether hobbyists or full-time makers.
To that end, NQ Jewellery and Craft Supplies’ customers are earring makers and crafters from all over Australia and overseas.
Kathleen says, “I have a wonderful community of makers, and that's growing all the time."
Business Operations
In NQ Jewellery and Craft Supplies' early days, Kathleen would only order several hundred items. But before long, she found herself ordering tens of thousands of items in one order!
While this growth was obviously welcome, Kathleen was now faced with a problem: keeping track of all this inventory.
