Who Invented Stickers?
The Story Behind the First Stickers and Labels
Before the invention of self-adhesive stickers, most food and product labels relied on water-activated adhesive gums to stick. In 1935 Stan Avery, founder of Avery, revolutionised the labelling industry by inventing the first self-adhesive stickers. This innovation allowed people to label their products without the need for moisture. By 1940, Avery began selling these labels under the name “Kum Kleen Price Stickers”, which were primarily used for pricing goods.

Avery continued to grow, becoming a leader in blank labels and custom stickers. The company consistently innovated, expanding its range of products for both businesses and homeowners to better organise their office and home.
90 years of innovation have made stickers and labels of today more useful and versatile than ever before. From blank labels stickers to heavy-duty waterproof and removable labels, films and stickers, there is a product for every use.
