Labels Help You Serve Fresh Food

Every business that centres its activities around supplying food knows that Australian consumers expect the highest standards in food handling and safety. We have among the strictest food safety regulations in the world, governed by Food Safety Australia & New Zealand (FSANZ).

Every year in Australia there are 5.4 million cases of food poisoning, and 120 people die each year from foodborne diseases. And as a business owner, manager or food professional in a restaurant, catering firm or residential facility, you’re no doubt well aware that the potential for disaster from poor quality food, mishandling or spoilage is ever present.

Procedures to prevent mishaps — and even tragedies — include steps such as regular hand washing by food handlers, ensuring your suppliers meet strict guidelines in their own procedures, adequate food storage, refrigeration and freezing to ensure that food is prepared and consumed before it can become contaminated. Food should also not be kept within the temperature range of 5-60°C for longer than two hours.

Another vitally important food practice to provide safe, high-quality food products is labelling ingredients and prepared food so there is no doubt about their origins and expiration date.

Use the Right Label

Avery food dispensing labels include Shelf Life labels, Use By and Use First labels, Monday to Sunday Day labels, and Freezer Safe Day of the Week labels. Plain coloured Dot stickers are also part of the range and can be handwritten with extra information. A dispenser kit, to make the labelling process easier than ever, holds a full set of Day of the Week 25mm round labels, and comes with screws for quick benchtop mounting.

An easily understood colour code system has been included to make sure handlers know the freshness of foodstuffs when they’re preparing and packaging meals.

Avery pre-printed labels are also available to help with shelf life, use first and use by situations. These are perfect for foodstuffs stored in pantries or refrigerators, and ensure that you rotate and serve food in the correct order.

Avery developed each label for specific applications so that you can record relevant information for each use. You can also use Avery colour-coded day labels alongside shelf life labels so you know exactly how long they can be held safely.

Avery labels are designed to stick to a wide variety of surfaces, especially glass and plastic containers, but can be readily removed when required. It is recommended that the labels be removed prior to washing containers.
