Print inside your labels using A4 settings
If It's Not A4, It's Not Right!
Have you ever experienced the situation where your labels or cards look terrific on your screen, but they print out all over the page, in the wrong places? They might cross over multiple labels, and yet everything looked so good on screen! It's a common issue, but has a very simple solution: it's possible you need to adjust your print settings to suit A4 paper.

In Australia and New Zealand, we use A4 paper. Microsoft® applications tend to default to the American setting of letter-sized paper, which can completely mis-align the information on your labels. It's important to implement the following quick steps to ensure your paper sizes and print configurations are all set to A4. You need to ensure settings are correct in both Microsoft Word, and in Microsoft Windows®. Below are the instructions for Microsoft Word 2007 and Microsoft Windows XP. For instructions on how to assign your settings to A4 in other versions of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Windows, please contact the Avery Consumer Service Centre. For instructions on how to set your Mac® to A4, check our guide.

Step 1 - Checking the Print Settings in Microsoft Word 2007
  • Click on the Office button, in the top left corner of the screen
  • Scroll down and click on Print
  • The Print dialogue box will open. Click on Properties. The printer's properties dialogue box will open. It is important that figure out how to set your paper to be A4 in the paper size area of this box. Each printer shows different options in its properties, but you could consult your printer manual, or check the printer manufacturer's web site.
  • If you have multiple printers, you'll need to follow the steps above to set the paper size to be A4 for each of them

Step 4 - Checking the Print Settings in Microsoft Windows XP

  • Click on the Start button
  • Scroll to Settings, then Printers and Faxes
  • Scroll across and select the printer you need to check. A dialogue box for your printer will open. Select Printer from the toolbar, and scroll down to Printing Preferences…. The printer's properties dialogue box will open.
  • It is important that you figure out how to set your paper to be A4 in the paper size area of this box. Each printer shows different options in its properties, but we recommend you consult your printer manual, or check the printer manufacturer's web site.
  • If you have multiple printers, you'll need to follow the steps above to set the paper size to be A4 for each of them
See! We told you it was easy! Following the above steps could make a big difference to how simple and quick it is for you to print Avery products. Another tip: sometimes your settings may revert back to letter without you realising. If you start to experience labels looking great on-screen, but not fitting in the labels when you print, try following the above steps again.
